How much endfloat would you expect to find on a 16" Atco standard, i have about 3/8 to 1/2" and wondered if they are all pretty much the same given the 2 chains alignment or do the chains tend to self centre it.

I wouldn’t get too concerned. I rebuilt my HY about six years ago and may well have used shim washers “ as necessary”.  A phrase that often appeared in the parts books for early Westwood tractors where the were often considerable dimensional discrepancies between components supplied as replacement parts.
